COOKING CLASS DURATION & STRUCTURE
Average Class Length
Kitchen Studio Classes typically run 2 to 4 hours for 3–4 dishes.
In-home private cooking classes may vary significantly in length depending on menu complexity, number of participants, and level of preparation involved.
What We Mean by a “Dish”
In the context of a cooking class, a dish refers to a single component of a complete meal.
For example, a Surf & Turf experience may include:
Shrimp, Steak, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans—each considered one dish within the full menu.
This structure allows us to build complete, restaurant-quality meals from multiple techniques and components.
What Shapes the Flow of Your Class?
-
The complexity of the dishes selected (Intermediate through Expert)
-
Cooking methods involved (baking, roasting, grilling, slow cooking, and more)
-
Additional culinary techniques, such as plating or decoration
-
Number of participants in the class
-
Real-time, hands-on preparation
-
Conversation, questions, and instructor interaction
-
Natural breaks during the experience
-
Setup, dining, and cleanup flow
-
Every class develops its own rhythm based on these elements.
Preparing for Your Class
To make the most of your experience, guests are encouraged to review recipes in advance. Familiarity with ingredients and steps helps create a smoother, more engaging, and more interactive session.
Managing Time Constraints
Cooking class duration can be adjusted based on scheduling needs. To reduce total event time for multi-course meals, consider the following options:
1. Chef Pre-Preparation
The chef prepares all ingredients in advance.
Students/clients focus on assembling and cooking, without chopping or initial prep work.
2. Partial Preparation
The chef preps select ingredients.
Students/clients fully prepare two chosen dishes, while the chef prepares the remaining components.
3. Clean-As-You-Go Method
Maintaining cleanliness throughout the class helps streamline the overall workflow and reduce end-of-class cleanup time.
4. Simplified Menu
Reducing the menu to 1 course (for example: 1 main dish with 1–2 sides) significantly shortens class duration.
For strict time constraints—such as venue rentals with limited hours—1–2 dish classes are recommended, factoring in setup, eating, and cleanup.
A Note on Experience
While shorter formats are available, the full experience is designed to be unhurried, interactive, and immersive. Extending the time allows for deeper instruction, better pacing, and a more complete culinary experience.
